Susanne Schmidt: Passion for Design and Interiors
The story of Susanne Schmidt is a journey of creativity and innovation, driven by a love for design and a commitment to creating functional and beautiful interiors.
From Garden Enthusiast to Designer
Susanne Schmidt's journey began in a garden, where her love for nature and gardening was met with physical discomfort. Years ago, while tending to her garden, she experienced back and knee pain. Seeking relief, she initially used a traditional bricklayer's stool. Although sitting on a one-legged stool proved effective, it came with its own set of challenges. The heavy stool was difficult to maneuver, the foot sank into the grass, and maintaining balance was a struggle.
A New Design Perspective: OneLeg Skammel
Taking inspiration from the bricklayer's stool, Susanne Schmidt, along with her friend Jens Andersen, embarked on a journey to create a more functional solution. The result was the OneLeg-skammel, introduced in 2011. Crafted from plastic, this ergonomic stool featured a curved leg that didn't dig into the grass and allowed for a tilting motion. Its unique design also enabled it to stand independently. The success of the OneLeg-skammel led to the development of a wooden version, the OneLeg-Wood.
Beyond the Garden: A Versatile Solution
While initially designed for gardening, the OneLeg-skammel found its way into various environments and purposes. From outdoor to indoor settings, and from children to adults, the stool's versatility shone through. It found its place in healthcare facilities, institutions, and schools, highlighting its adaptability and functionality.
Design and Interior Passion: No.16 and Fryd Living
Susanne Schmidt's passion for design and interiors took on a new dimension in 2018 when she, along with Nina Larsson and Birgitte Majlund, co-founded No.16 - Fredensborg's smallest department store. No.16 encompasses Birgitte's yarn store, Garnvärk, Susanne Schmidt's interior boutique, Café No.16, and the smaller interior store, Fryd Living. The store also features a variety of popup shops showcasing products from independent designers, artisans, webshops, and small businesses.
Expanding Horizons
In 2022, Susanne Schmidt expanded her endeavors by establishing a significant home section at Chrst. Boecksvej 17 in Fredensborg. This space showcases a wide range of furniture for different areas of the home, including the garden, entrance, and bathroom. The expansion reflects her dedication to inspiring customers and meeting their needs for stylish and functional home décor. At No.16 (Jernbanegade 16, Fredensborg), a broad selection of kitchen products and smaller interior items awaits visitors.
Susanne Schmidt isn't just a business—it's a manifestation of a designer's passion, a commitment to comfort, and a desire to enhance the quality of life through innovative and stylish interiors. With an array of stools and interior products, the brand continues to enrich homes and lives with its distinct blend of beauty and functionality.
